Bluestar started life under the Solent Blue Line name, as a subsidiary of Southern Vectis, in 1987. With its striking yellow and blue colour scheme, it offered the people of Southampton a fresh and new alternative in bus travel. We’ve changed a lot since then as we keep on evolving.
Our current network of bus services in Southampton, Winchester and the Waterside makes Bluestar the main inter-urban bus operator in Southern Hampshire.
We continually invest in our buses and technology. From the latest modern fleet to offering our customers enhancements like free wifi and USB chargers so they can make the most of their journey time with us. Our buses, with their striking star design, are easy to spot - and they certainly stand out amongst the crowd.
Our investment in off-bus ticketing technology makes bus travel available to buy online from the comfort of an armchair with our smartcard the key. Tickets can also be bought instantly through our mobile app.
Our strong relationship with the University of Southampton means we can offer joint-ticketing across our Unilink and Bluestar networks -giving all our customers a much wider choice.
It is a goal to remain the leading friendly operation throughout Southampton - shining across your city
Diversity and inclusion makes for a successful business and a happy connected workforce. We take pride in training our drivers up to PCV standard - and we provide additional training, ensuring they are equipped to offer the very best customer service.
Our staff are encouraged to go the extra mile, and our monthly star of the month scheme allows us to recognise them for their dedication to our customers.
Our buses are maintained within our own garages. And we are proud to have been awarded IRTE accreditation which is a difficult challenge because of the incredibly high standards required - and Bluestar has succeeded where many have failed.
We take very seriously the need to make it easier for those of you with mobility, sight, or hearing difficulties to get around on our buses and use our website too. Our websites are equipped with ‘speak me’ technology to help the visually impaired. The software can also translate into many different languages. Click the icon to find out more
We also provide large format printed timetables for the visually impaired. Our buses are fitted with ‘next stop’ announcement technology - helping you keep track of where you are on your journey.
All buses are low floor and easy access - and we have spaces available for wheelchair users. Our friendly drivers are always happy to assist. In the absence of national guidance, we can only carry mobility scooters below a certain size on our easy-access buses.
We have held trials in conjunction with the Southampton Learning Disability Partnership Board that show the maximum size must not exceed 100cm in length and 60cm in width. It is therefore essential that you contact us with details of the make, model and dimensions of your scooter to obtain authorisation before attempting to travel. Call 01202 338421 to check.
